Kanchanpur flood victims live in the forest

Dhangadhi: The flood-affected people of Kanchanpur's Shuklaphanta municipality-12, Ekanta tole complained that they still had to spend the night in the forest. After the rain last Friday night, those who were affected by the flood have not been able to return to normal conditions.

Now, 15 families here are logging day and night in Janjagaran Community Forest. Meghu Bohara, a lonely villager, said that after being affected by the flood, he was hanging a tarp in the forest. He said, "The contents of the house were completely washed away by the flood, only the pillars of the house remain. The house is full of mud, all the clothes were washed away by the flood."

He complained that they were disturbed by the flood in the Vanhara river on Friday night. He says, "It's been so many days, till today we are sitting in the forest hanging the tent, wondering how to return home, there is nothing left from the flood. The government has ignored us. We demand relief from the state government, local government."

The flood of Vanhara river has damaged his paddy cultivation planted on 15 katta land in Ekanta tole. Flood-affected residents of Shuklaphanta Municipality-11, Vanhara camp are also in trouble. 30 families there are also spending the night under a tarpaulin in the nearby forest. The squatters of Vanhara complain that the government has not taken care of them even though they have been suffering from floods every year. Even though the flood is causing suffering every year, it has not been managed sustainably yet.

On the other hand, Ran Bahadur Mahara, the city chief of Shuklaphanta Municipality, informed that the flood affected people have been moved to a safe place. He said that they are trying to normalize the situation after the flood.
