Dhangadhi: Sunday is a public holiday in Kailali and Kanchanpur. On the 28th of August (12th of Bhadra), the government of Sudurpaschim Province has decided to give a public holiday for the Atawari festival of the Tharu community.
According to the decision of the Council of Ministers of the state government on the 25th of August (9th Bhadra), the holiday which was earlier scheduled to be given on the 19th of Bhadra will be given on August 25th (12th of Bhadra). All government offices and public bodies in Kailali-Kanchanpur will be a holiday on that day. Tharu men worship Bhima, one of the five Pandavas, during the Atawari festival, without even drinking water, wishing for the unwavering good fortune of their sisters.
