Clash between smugglers and custom officials at Gauriphanta checkpoint

Dhangadhi: Police have arrested 4 people including two women from Gauriphanta crossing. Police arrested two women who were illegally bringing goods from the border on Monday night.

According to the police, Richa Kunwar and Manju Kunwar of Dhangadhi sub-metropolitan city-2 were found by the Kailali customs office patrolling the vehicle while bringing goods from the checkpoint.

Rohit Mahata, the driver of the customs office, was assaulted while taking control of the goods brought by them. Spokesman of District Police Office Kailali, Ved Prakash Joshi, said that Richa and Manju assaulted the driver and tore his clothes.

He said that the vehicle was also vandalized. Spokesman Joshi said that they had to be detained after they refused to agree even after trying to negotiate for a long time. Richa's husband, Kalusingh Kunwar, was also found involved in vandalizing the vehicle, DSP Joshi said. However, spokesperson Joshi said that the women are alleging that they were assaulted, that the nose ring was missing, and that they were being asked to pay Rs. 2,000. It is said that Richa's husband, Richa and Manju along with the driver Mahata have been kept at the district police office.

Police said that the goods brought by the women were seized by the customs office at night and the police are working to understand more about the incident.
