Nepali Congress wins in K.I. Singh

Dhangadhi: The Nepali Congress (NC) has emerged victorious in the K.I. Singh rural municipality of Doti, the hometown of Far-Western Chief Minister Trilochan Bhatt. NC's Lokendra Bahadur Shahi has been elected as the chairman of the rural municipality.

He won with 4262 votes. His rival Keshav Nath Yogi of the UCPN (Maoist) Center got only 362 votes. NC's Minadevi Bista has also won the post of vice-president. She won with 4072 votes. His rival Nirmala Awasthi of the Unified Socialists polled 2,536 votes.

K.I. Singh is also the housewife of Purna Joshi, a leader of the Unified Socialists and former Minister for Internal Affairs and Law of the Far Western Province. K.I. Singh had an alliance between the Maoist center and the Unified Socialists. In four of the seven wards of the rural municipality, the candidates of Nepali Congress, Samajwadi, Maoist and RPP have won in one ward each.

Out of the nine local levels of Doti, the results of eight local levels have been made public. Congress has won in six municipalities while UML and UCPN (M) have won in one municipality each.
