Dhangadhi: The UML convention is being held in eight districts of the far west today. Apart from Bajhang, conventions are being held in eight districts of the state for leadership selection. UML has stated that it is trying to reach a consensus as there are many aspirants for the post of chairperson in most of the districts.

There are three aspirants for the leadership of the Kailali district. Leaders Ratan Thapa, Ran Bahadur Chand, and Daisy Pandey have shown interest. Thapa, who was elected vice-president at the previous UML convention, is now holding the post of district president and secretary-elected Chand. Incumbent UML Chairman Bir Bahadur Thapa, Bhim Dutta Municipality Mayor Surendra Bisht, and Vedkot Municipality Mayor Ashok Chand are aspiring for the post. A discussion is scheduled between them on Wednesday.

Incumbent chairperson Prakash Saund, mayor of Amargadhi municipality Bisheshwar Prasad Ojha, central vice-chairperson of the National Youth Association Gajendra Shahi, and state committee member Padam Pal have shown aspiration for the post in Dadeldhura. In Baitadi, current chairman Surendra Pal and Pancheshwor village chairman Gorakh Bahadur Chand are aspiring for the post. If the party agrees, the current chairman of Darchula, Ram Chandra Joshi, is on the verge of becoming chairman again. But along with him, Naugadh village chairman Prem Singh Dhami, UML state committee member Mohan Singh Dhami, current vice-chairman Uday Singh Badal, and Gyanendra Gharti have also expressed their desire to become chairman.

In Bajura, Kali Bahadur Shahi, Bharat Thapa, Bharat Budha and Lal Bahadur Oli are aspiring for the post. Prakash Shah had announced his candidature for the post at a press conference in Achham. Along with him, Chandra Bohara and Krishna Prasad Jaishi are also aspiring for the post.
