Kailali administration urges residents of Karnali river bank area to remain vigilant

Dhangadhi: The District Administration Office, Kailali, has urged the residents of the Karnali River bank area to remain vigilant. Residents residing near Karnali River have been urged to remain vigilant after the Karnali River breached the embankment due to continuous rains in the Chure area, said Shivaraj Joshi, Information Officer at the District Administration Office, Kailali.

"The embankment constructed in Tikapur Municipality-5 Shahipur is being cut and filled. We urge the people near the Karnali river areas to stay safe, he said. According to the locals, the embankment has burst and the danger of the water entering the village has increased as the water level has risen. The Karnali River cut through Tikapur Municipality ward no. 5, Shahipur and Simreni Ward no. 7.

It is also likely to affect Suryapur, Bishnu Kantipur, Bangaun and other villages. The children of Shahipur area have been sent to Tikapur as the danger of the flood entering the village has increased due to the ongoing rains. Although the Rani, Jamra and Kulariya Irrigation Projects of National Pride have been started, the Karnali River has been eroding the lands within the command area for protection, but the recurring problem of erosion has not abated.
