Dhangadhi: Hotels and transport sectors have been majorly affected by the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic.

In the month of Chaitra 2076 BS, the Coronavirus pandemic broke out which eventually affected many businesses compelling them to close down completely.

Far-Western states have been stalled for 15 months. Hotels, tourism and transportation businesses, which were affected by the first wave of Coronavirus, have been hit harder by the second wave.

Sixty percent hoteliers of Kanchanpur have been displaced due to the Coronavirus pandemic. Hoteliers informed that the remaining businesses will collapse if the Coronavirus pandemic continues to spread and the prohibatory order is extended.

Parmananda Bhandari, tourism secretary of the Federation of Hotel Entrepreneurs of Nepal, said that the hotel and tourism have been affected beyond repair.

"In order to sustain the existing hotel businesses, hotel services should be opened by adopting health protection activities after giving priority to vaccines." He said, "It seems that it will take at least 3/4 years for the hotel and tourism business in the region to return to its old rhythm."

The transport business has also been majorly affected by the pandemic. Since the first wave of Coronavirus, buses have been parked at garages, homes, and bus parks.

Most of them are jammed and rusty. While some vehicles are in operation to provide transportation to returnees from India to their destinations, other vehicles are at a standstill. President of the Mahakali Transport Entrepreneurs Association, Dambar Raj Pant, said that the transport business was affected by the Coronavirus just like other sectors.

"Although, the transport businesses have come to a standstill, the vehicle owners are forced to pay bank interest." He said, The condition of the workers has become deplorable after the business has been closed for 15 months.

They are forced to take up other professions. Half a dozen cinema halls in Kailali and Kanchanpur, including Dhangadhi, the temporary capital of the Far-West, are closed.

Guddu Awasthi, director of Seti Mahakali Cinema Hall in Kanchanpur, said that the risk of corona would be high as the cinema hall is a crowded place.

"There is no need to open a cinema hall immediately as the risk of corona infection pertains."

He said, Therefore, it is possible to operate in cinemas only after 100 percent vaccination. All three levels of government should pay attention to that.

While, the pandemic has been shaking the world economy, it has also affected the Far-West region. The risk of contracting Coronavirus from these areas is also high.

It has been pointed out that everyone needs to be vaccinated in order to restore these businesses.
