Dhangadhi: Some settlements of Bhim Dutta Municipality of Kanchanpur have been drowned.

The settlement of Airi Ghat in Bhimdatta Municipality-12 has been drowned due to the flood in Mahakali River. Ward Chairman of Bhimdatta Municipality-13 Lal Bahadur Shahi informed that 10 houses of Airy Basti have been drowned and rescue of people is being prepared.

The dam of the 4-lane bridge under construction over the Mahakali River has also been demolished due to high water level in the river. Ward Chairman Shahi informed Dinesh Khabar that air circulation was cut off after the dam was demolished.

A team of people's representatives including Bhim Dutta Municipality Chief Surendra Bisht has reached the flood-affected area. It is said that the flow of water in the river is increasing. Chief District Officer of Kanchanpur, Ram Kumar Mahato, said that the rescue team was kept on high alert to reduce the possible risk.

The water level in the Mahakali River was measured at 166,000 cusecs till 8 am on Saturday. Generally, the Mahakali River has increased to 40,000 cusecs. The District Administration Office, Kanchanpur, had issued an appeal on Friday urging vigilance in the coastal areas.
