Four lakh returnees from India entered Nepal through Far-West since the lockdown
About four lakh people have returned from India through the far western borders. According to government figures, nearly four lakh people who went to India for employment have returned after the outbreak of the global pandemic. According to the local administration, more than 145,000 people returned home from India in the first month of lockdown. As of June, 224,000 Nepalis had returned from India.
Shivraj Joshi, information officer at the district administration office, said that the highest number of 112,000 people returned from the Trinagar customs checkpoint in Kailali.
According to Joshi, 112,000 people have been repatriated from the border till Sunday in coordination with India.
Similarly, 112,000 people have returned from Gadda Chowki in Kanchanpur, 3,528 from Jhulaghat in Baitadi and 2,000 from Darchula, according to the District Administration Office.
It is estimated that nearly four lakh returnees are from the four districts of the state, Kailali, Kanchanpur, Baitadi and Darchula. However, the local administration has not recorded details their provinces. The state government, local government and other bodies have not been able to create employment opportunities in the state for the returnees.
