Two patients diagnosed with Scrub typhus in Province 7

Two patients have been diagnosed with Scrub typhus infection in Bhimdutta Municipality, Kanchanpur. Both of them reached for the treatment at Mahakali Hospital in Bhimdutta Municipality of Kanchanpur from ward no 9 and 18, said hospital information officer Keshav Awasthi. Scrub typhus is transmitted by some species of trombiculid mites which are found in areas with heavy scrub vegetation. Scrub typhus or bush typhus is a form of typhus caused by intracellular parasite a proteobacterium of family Rickettsiaceae first identified in Japan in 1930. The symptoms include high fever up to 104 degrees, headache, muscle pain, cough, gastrointestinal symptoms. In severe conditions, it also causes hemorrhaging and intravascular coagulation and rash. It also causes abnormal liver functions. While, pneumonitis, encephalitis, and myocarditis occur in the later phase of the illness.
