Kanchanpur: The District Administration Office, Kanchanpur, has directed sweet shop operators to clearly disclose the ingredients used in their products and their prices.

Assistant Chief District Officer Mohan Chandra Joshi issued a notice requiring sellers to display specific information about all sweets, including the ingredients used, the type of oil or ghee, expiry dates, and prices.

The administration has instructed businesses to display the required details and price lists in locations clearly visible to customers. The measure aims to protect consumer health and interests by ensuring that buyers are informed about the food products they purchase.

“Operators must ensure that information regarding the main ingredients used to produce sweets, the specific type of oil or ghee employed, and the product’s expiry date is displayed in a manner that is easily visible to consumers,” the administration’s notice states.

The administration has warned that, beginning Wednesday, failure to display the required information will result in action under the Food Hygiene and Quality Act, 2081.

It has urged sweet shop operators to comply with the directives and prioritize consumer health, safety, and food hygiene.

The consumption of sweets typically rises significantly during the upcoming Tihar and Chhath festivals compared with other times of the year.
