Baitadi Youth Arrested for Allegedly Celebrating Rasuwa Flood Disaster

Baitadi: A youth from Baitadi has been arrested on charges of expressing happiness over the Rasuwa flood disaster and targeting and humiliating various castes.

Birendra Madai, 24, of Surnaya Rural Municipality-7, Baitadi, was arrested after posting a video on social media. He currently lives in Chandragiri Municipality-12, Balambu, Kathmandu.

The Cyber Bureau had investigated a video broadcast on Facebook Reels on Bhadra 10, 2083, in which various castes were targeted and humiliated and happiness was expressed over the Bhotekoshi flood.

According to the bureau, technical analysis and investigation revealed that Madai had made the video. A team deployed by the bureau arrested him on Bhadra 20.

The bureau said further investigation into the case is underway after extending Madai’s remand period from the Kathmandu District Court for the offense under the Electronic Transactions Act, 2063 BS.
