Remand extended for 21 accused in Lampata attack case, investigation ongoing
Dhangadhi: Police have extended the remand of 21 individuals involved in an attack on people’s representatives, police personnel, and employees in the Lampata area of Bajura and have continued the investigation.
According to the District Police Office, Bajura, 20 of the arrested individuals have been remanded for nine days, while one has been remanded for ten days. Considering the seriousness of the incident, police have registered a case of physical hostage-taking against them and are conducting a detailed investigation.
The District Police Office stated that further fact-finding, assessment of the level of involvement, and the search for other possible accused are also ongoing.
The incident occurred on May 16 and 17, when locals from Ward No. 2 Thali of Kharpunath Rural Municipality in Humla reached Lampata-Chyachaur in Bajura, assaulted local residents, and took them hostage. Five individuals from Lampata were injured in the attack.
Following the incident, ten local families took shelter at relatives’ homes in Gumba of Himali Rural Municipality. Chairperson of Himali Rural Municipality, Govinda Bahadur Malla, said the displaced families returned home only after the government established a base camp for the Armed Police Force and Nepal Police in Lampata.
