Dodhara-Chandani dry port records 4.5 percent physical progress
Mahendranagar: Construction of the dry port in Dodhara Chandani, Kanchanpur is progressing steadily, with 4.5 percent physical progress achieved since work began on December 24, 2025.
Engineer Anil KC of the Nepal Intermodal Transport Development Committee said that structural work is currently underway at the project site. “The financial progress of the dry port, being constructed with technical and financial assistance from the Government of India, stands at 3.5 percent,” he said. “Soil filling, wall construction, housing structures, and the foundation for the bridge over the Malaria Nallah are currently in progress.”
According to Engineer KC, the dry port, which is being built at a cost of 2.37 billion Indian rupees, is expected to be completed within thirty months. Earlier, 1,705 trees were cut down in the Gaurishankar Community Forest in Dodhara Chandani Municipality-1 to facilitate construction. An agreement for the project was signed between the Government of Nepal and the Government of India on June 1, 2023.
The government had initially announced plans to construct the dry port in Dodhara Chandani in 2064 BS, but the project faced prolonged uncertainty due to land-related issues. “The construction company is using Nepali materials such as stone, soil, ballast, gravel, and bricks,” Engineer KC said. “In addition, some construction materials have been imported from India.”
The Intermodal Transport Development Committee stated that the project will include two warehouse buildings, a quarantine facility, a customs check building, an immigration office, a security building, and other infrastructure across an area of 42.36 hectares. Construction of an access road to the dry port from the Indian side is also underway.
