Far-west to elect 11 proportional MPs to house of representatives
Dhangadhi: A total of 11 proportional MPs are set to be elected from Far West Province to the House of Representatives. After parties that have crossed the election threshold select names from their closed lists and submit them to the Election Commission, the proportional MPs from the region will be finalized.
The National Independent Party (RIP) will secure the largest number with six MPs. The NCP has submitted three names, while the Nepali Congress and the CPN-UML have nominated one name each for proportional representation.
The RIP, which won 10 of the 16 direct seats in the province, has also included six individuals from the Far West in its proportional representation list. The party’s secretariat meeting on Sunday approved the names and recommended them to the Election Commission.
According to the RIP list, Pratibha Rawal of Kanchanpur tops the Khasa Arya Women Cluster. Aakriti Awasthi of Dadeldhura, Tika Sangraula of Achham and Ratna Thapa are also on the list for proportional MP positions from the same cluster. Sangraula and Thapa have been included under the backward areas quota.
Additionally, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangha has recommended Karishma Katharia of Kailali and Geeta Chaudhary of Kanchanpur from the Tharu women cluster.
The NCP, which did not win any direct seats in the province, has nominated three proportional MPs from the Far West. The party has submitted Maisi Chaudhary of Kanchanpur from the Tharu women cluster, Prem Bayak of Kailali from the disability cluster, and Ganesh Bahadur BK of Bajhang from the Dalit cluster to the Election Commission.
The Nepali Congress and CPN-UML, which won three direct seats each in the province, have included one proportional MP each from the Far West. The Congress has recommended Harinadevi Kami of Dadeldhura from the Dalit women’s cluster, while the UML has recommended Kriparam Rana of Kanchanpur from the Tharu cluster.
