Dadeldhura couple who sold maize join election police amid financial struggles
Dadeldhura: Om Prakash Bhatta and his wife Tikeshwari Bhatta, permanent residents of Dugri, Bhageshwor Rural Municipality-4, Dadeldhura, who previously earned a living by selling roasted maize in Dadeldhura market, have joined the election police due to their financial difficulties.
The Bhatta couple is currently residing in a tent in the Dadeldhura market. Om Prakash Bhatta shared that he lives with his 82-year-old mother, his wife, a 10-year-old son, and a 6-year-old daughter who is in nursery school. He mentioned that his father passed away from paralysis as timely medical treatment was unaffordable due to the family’s financial constraints.
“I sell maize from Chaitra to Asoj, and after the season, I sell almonds (mumphali),” he said. He also earns income by setting up stalls at various fairs and festivals held in Dadeldhura throughout the year.
Despite their financial hardships, the Bhatta couple, who dream of providing higher education for their children and making them doctors, feel some relief after being selected for the temporary election police force.
