Kathmandu: The Supreme Court has commenced hearings on the writ petition filed challenging the cancellation of Resham Lal Chaudhary’s candidacy, patron of the Civil Liberties Party Nepal.

A joint bench of Justices Sharanga Subedi and Tek Prasad Dhungana is presiding over the petition filed by Chaudhary.

Earlier, on Magh 2, a single bench of Justice Bal Krishna Dhakal had requested a written response from the Election Commission regarding the writ petition and ordered both parties to appear for discussions on the interim order. On Magh 3, a joint bench of Justices Bal Krishna Dhakal and Nripadhwaj Niraula directed that the judgment file related to the manslaughter case be submitted in accordance with the previous order.

Following the completion of the required process and receipt of the file, the interim order hearing was scheduled for today.

Resham Chaudhary had filed his nomination papers from Kailali Constituency No. 1 for the upcoming House of Representatives elections scheduled for February 21 but approached the Supreme Court after the Election Commission rejected his candidacy.
