Mahendranagar: Former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak visited his ancestral home in Bedkot Municipality-8 on Friday morning, five months after it was destroyed during the Genji movement.

On Bhadra 24, agitators had completely burned down his ancestral residence. Lekhak, a senior leader of the Nepali Congress, visited the site to assess the condition of the house and to support his party candidate ahead of the upcoming House of Representatives elections.

Both his house in Naikap, Kathmandu, and his ancestral home in Bedkot-8 were completely destroyed by fire. He is currently residing in a repaired house in the market area of Mahendranagar.

During the visit, Lekhak met with local residents for the first time since the incident. Locals updated him on ongoing road infrastructure projects and other developments in the village. Lekhak, who served as Home Minister after winning the 2079 BS election from Kanchanpur Constituency No. 3, is not contesting in this year’s elections.

After the Nepali Congress denied tickets to former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba and Lekhak in Dadeldhura, the party has nominated former district president Hari Prasad Bohara as its candidate. Lekhak has intensified election activities in support of Bohara in the constituency.
