Rare Rajlahanche bird spotted in Devhariya park, Dhangadhi
Dhangadhi: A rare Rajlahanche bird has been sighted for the first time in Devhariya Park, located in Dhangadhi Sub-metropolitan City-7, Kailali.
The globally rare bird, previously observed in other parts of Kailali, was seen near Zakhor Lake within the park premises. On Saturday morning, two Rajlahanche were spotted perched on a tree in a human settlement.
The Rajlahanche is listed as a vulnerable species by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). Ornithologist Hirulal Dangaura noted that the bird is usually found in areas with Sal forests and explained that the presence of Sal trees in Devhariya Park likely attracted the species.
Dangaura further stated that the Rajlahanche has been previously recorded in the Patela and Beli areas of Dhangadhi Sub-metropolitan City. This species typically inhabits tall Sal trees exceeding 30 feet in height. The first recorded sighting of Rajlahanche in Kailali was in 2014 near Ghodaghodi Lake.
