Chief election officer’s office established in Baitadi ahead of House of Representatives polls
Baitadi: The Chief Election Officer’s Office has been established in Baitadi in preparation for the upcoming House of Representatives elections scheduled for Falgun 21.
The office was formally set up on Friday, District Election Office Chief Khagendra Bharti confirmed, stating that it was established in line with the Election Commission’s work schedule. The inauguration was attended by Chief Election Officer Tirtharaj Bhatta, Chief District Officer Punya Bikram Poudel, District Election Office Chief Khagendra Bharti, and heads of security agencies in the district.
Since Baitadi has only one constituency for the House of Representatives, all activities, including the registration of nominations, will be conducted through the Chief Election Officer’s office, Bharti said.
Baitadi has 156,372 registered voters, including 78,987 men, 77,383 women, and two others. Naresh Dayal, Information Officer of the District Election Office, noted that this represents an increase of 6,216 voters compared to the previous election, which had 150,156 voters.
According to the Election Commission’s schedule, registration of candidacies will begin on Magh 6, from 10 am to 5 pm, with the preliminary list of candidates published the same day. Claims and objections to candidacies can be submitted on Magh 7, with decisions on these matters finalized on Magh 8. The amended list of candidates will be published on Magh 9.
The deadline for withdrawal of candidacies is set for Magh 10, after which the final list of candidates will be published. Election symbols are scheduled to be distributed to candidates on Magh 11.
