Sudurpaschim to provide Rs 5,000 incentive to farmers raising cattle
Attaria: The Sudurpaschim provincial government is set to launch an incentive program for farmers raising cattle across all nine districts of the province in the current fiscal year. The initiative is part of the provincial government's budget plan.
According to Rajkumar Jha, Information Officer at the Ministry of Land Management, Agriculture and Cooperatives, a budget of Rs 9.75 million has been allocated for the program. Under this scheme, 1,950 cattle-raising farmers will each receive an incentive amount of Rs 5,000. The program will be operated through veterinary hospitals and animal service expert centers in all nine districts, and the allocated budget has already been distributed to the respective centers. The ministry plans to continue the program in the coming years.
Jha informed that Rs 1.5 million has been allocated for Kailali, Rs 1.25 million for Kanchanpur, and Rs 1 million each for the remaining districts—Bajura, Doti, Achham, Darchula, Baitadi, Dadeldhura and Bajhang.
To qualify for the incentive, farmers must be engaged in agriculture and livestock farming, raise cattle or sheep, and, in the case of Terai districts, possess a bullock cart (dallab) and a plow.
The program will prioritize areas already implementing organic agriculture promotion programs, while in other districts, remote local levels will be given preference. Jha added that the incentive payments will be deposited directly into the bank accounts of eligible farmers.
