One dead, five injured in bus accident on East-West Highway in Kapilvastu
Dhangadhi: One person was killed and five others were injured in a bus accident that took place on the East-West Highway at Bankasbas, Shivaraj Municipality-1, Kapilvastu, on Wednesday night.
According to Police Inspector Santosh Ghimire of the Ward Police Office Chandrauta, the accident occurred at around 2 am when a passenger bus (B.P.01-006 Kha 8506) en route from Kathmandu to Dhangadhi lost control and overturned after hitting a pedestrian crossing the road.
Inspector Ghimire said that the pedestrian, a man aged around 50 to 55, was taken to Basic Hospital Chandrauta for treatment but was declared dead by doctors at around 3 am. The five injured passengers were taken to Sanjivani Community Hospital Chandrauta for treatment.
The injured have been identified as Jagguram Dagaura, 43, of Bedkot Municipality-7 in Kanchanpur; Tekendra Khatri, 45, of Budhanilkantha Municipality-6 in Kathmandu; Bharat Nath, 24, of Bhimdatta Municipality-10 in Kanchanpur; Bhim Bahadur Chaudhary, 36, of Laljhari Rural Municipality-1 in Kanchanpur; and Ritu Lohar, 14, of Gulariya Municipality-4 in Kanchanpur.
There were about 35 passengers on board the bus at the time of the accident. Police have taken the bus driver into custody for investigation, Inspector Ghimire said.
