Five prisoners remain at large after Dadeldhura prison escape, 80 recaptured

Dadeldhura: Five of the 85 inmates who escaped from Dadeldhura prison following arson and vandalism during the Genji Movement last Bhadra remain at large. According to prison administrator Santosh Kumar Bhatta, 80 prisoners have been recaptured so far, while the search for the remaining five continues.

On the morning of Bhadra 25, prisoners set fire to their belongings, broke the prison door, and fled en masse. A joint team of the Nepal Army, Nepal Police, and Armed Police Force subsequently arrested many of the escaped inmates from various parts of the country.

The prison, which originally housed 127 inmates, currently has 122 prisoners back in custody.

Of the five absconding prisoners, four are serving sentences related to rape and one for duty murder. The addresses of two of the rape convicts are in Baitadi, while one each is from Dadeldhura and Doti. The inmate serving a sentence for duty murder is from Parshuram Municipality-5, Dadeldhura.

Additionally, the absconding inmate convicted of incest is from Navadurga Rural Municipality-4, Dadeldhura. The other absconding prisoners are from Patan Municipality-8 in Baitadi, Sigas Rural Municipality-7, and Jorayal Rural Municipality-1 in Doti.

The prison administration has confirmed that efforts to locate and apprehend the remaining fugitives are ongoing.
