262 inmates still at large after mass escape from Kailali prison

Dhangadhi: Police have yet to apprehend all the inmates who escaped from Kailali prison during the Genji movement on Bhadra 24. Taking advantage of the unrest, 665 prisoners managed to flee from the facility.

According to Kailali Prison Chief Chiranjivi Sapkota, 400 prisoners had returned to custody as of Tuesday, while 262 remain at large. Among those still missing, 19 are reported to be Indian nationals.

Jailer Sapkota said that most of the returnees voluntarily surrendered, while others were recaptured by police from various locations.

At the time of the escape, there were 667 prisoners in Kailali prison, including 58 women. Sapkota said that 665 inmates fled during the incident, while one was unable to escape due to undergoing treatment and another chose not to flee.
