Dhangadhi: The Sudurpaschim Provincial Assembly has yet to hold a meeting after its building was set on fire during the Genji movement on Bhadra 24.

Protesters reportedly set fire to the Provincial Assembly building, administrative offices, thematic committee rooms, parliamentary party offices, and vehicles, causing significant damage. There is currently no decision on when the indefinitely postponed meeting will take place.

Chief Minister Kamal Bahadur Shah had instructed the Provincial Assembly Secretariat to convene the meeting after Tihar. However, the Secretariat has stated that immediate meetings are not possible as reconstruction and repairs of the damaged structures will take time.

Dev Bahadur Bogati, Secretary of the Provincial Assembly Secretariat, said that the meeting cannot be held in the same building for now because all furniture, technical equipment, and other materials inside were destroyed by the fire. He added that work on installing windows, doors, and primary repairs has begun through a quotation process.

“It is expected to take at least two months to complete the reconstruction and repair of all damaged structures,” Secretary Bogati said. “We have taken immediate action, but it remains uncertain when the meeting will be held.”
