Chief Minister Shah inspects damage to Kailali municipalities following ‘Gen-z’ protests
Dhangadhi: Sudurpaschim Province Chief Minister Kamal Bahadur Shah conducted an on-site inspection of the damage caused to local government offices in Kailali during the recent ‘Gen-z’ protests.
On Sunday, Chief Minister Shah visited Godavari, Gauriganga, and Ghodaghodi municipalities to assess the condition of damaged municipal buildings and infrastructure.
Ghodaghodi Municipality Mayor Khadak Rawat reported that vandalism and arson during the protest caused significant financial losses. According to Mayor Rawat, the municipality suffered material damage worth Rs 35,097,700 and infrastructure damage of Rs 7 million. Across all 12 wards, material losses reached Rs 29,028,000, with infrastructure damage amounting to Rs 20 million, bringing the total loss in the municipality to Rs 85,025,000. Mayor Rawat added that daily municipal services are continuing and reconstruction of key offices, including the mayor and deputy mayor’s offices, is planned between Dashain and Tihar. Wards 4, 6, and 12 also require reconstruction.
Similarly, Godavari Municipality reported losses exceeding Rs 90 million, while Gauriganga Municipality suffered over Rs 70 million in damages, making these three municipalities the hardest hit in Kailali.
During the inspection, Chief Minister Shah emphasized the need for unity in reconstruction efforts. He stated that the provincial government is focused on cost-cutting measures and urged municipalities to do the same. Chief Minister Shah pledged necessary assistance to affected municipalities, prioritizing citizen security, peace, and rehabilitation.
