Gauriganga Municipality’s Deficit Rises to Rs 33 Crore

Dhangadhi: Gauriganga Municipality in Kailali has added Rs 3.20 crore to its financial deficit within a year.
According to an audit of the municipality’s Rs 1.84 arbas budget for the fiscal year 2080/81, the total deficit now stands at Rs 3.33 arba. This marks a 1.74 percent budget shortfall.

The audit report by the Office of the Auditor General reveals that the municipality must recover Rs 89.72 lakhs. Of this, Rs 51.62 lakhs requires submission of supporting evidence and documentation, while Rs 1.49 crore needs to be regularized. So far, only Rs 3.10 clakhs of the deficit has been settled.

In the previous fiscal year, the municipality had a deficit of Rs 3.22 arba, which has now increased to Rs 3.33 arba.

The audit identified irregularities in various areas including hospitality expenses, incentive allowances, disbursements made to accounts of deceased individuals, double disbursement of social security allowances, expenditures exceeding approved norms, and excessive disbursement of teachers’ salary allowances. These irregularities amount to a total of Rs 738,793.
