UML’s electoral fate in far west hinges on party unity, says secretary Bhatta

Kailali: CPN-UML Secretary Lekhraj Bhatta has stated that internal unity is crucial for the party's electoral success in the Far West, warning that a lack of cohesion could lead to a complete loss of seats in the region.
Bhatta, who also serves as the UML Central Secretary and Sudurpaschim Province in-charge, expressed his views while addressing the second convention of the Nepal Sports Federation Sudurpaschim Province. He remarked that if unity is restored within the party, UML could secure all 16 House of Representatives constituencies in the Far West. However, without unity, the party risks losing even the two seats it currently holds.

He stated that the UML is facing pressure from both internal and external forces, and emphasized the need for people’s organizations to remain active and take a leading role during times of crisis. “When the party is in crisis, we all have to stand at the forefront. UML is still becoming stronger. That is why the party is being besieged,” he said.

Bhatta praised the party chairman's dedication and resilience, saying, “He is dedicated to building the country. He works 20 hours a day. Players should also take inspiration from such leadership.”

Speaking at the same event, Nepal Sports Federation Central Vice President Dipendra Dahal emphasized the Federation's role during times of political uncertainty and pledged its full support in strengthening UML in the upcoming elections.
CPN-UML Politburo member and former Chief Minister of Sudurpaschim, Rajendra Singh Rawal, highlighted the region’s potential in sports, particularly cricket. He stressed the need for quality sports infrastructure and the integration of sports with economic and social development.
Sudurpaschim Province President Krishna Prasad Jaishi stated that the UML has recently prioritized sports and urged the government and relevant authorities to take the province’s sports policy seriously. He emphasized the importance of infrastructure development and policy reform in the sector.
Bishnu Chand, Central Secretary of the Sports Federation and Far West In-charge, noted that the Federation is continuously working for the advancement of sports in the region.
The event also honored various sports personalities. Delivering the closing remarks, Federation President Prakash Chand reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to developing the sports sector in the Far West and enhancing athletes’ capabilities. He expressed confidence that the new leadership will continue this mission.
