Khutiya river faces growing pollution despite cleanliness campaign in Dhangadhi
Dhangadhi: The Khutiya River in Dhangadhi Sub-Metropolitan City is facing increasing pollution due to unregulated garbage dumping, despite an ongoing cleanliness campaign in the area.
In a municipality where littering is strictly prohibited, waste accumulation in the river, particularly in the Beli Bazaar area of Ward No. 7, has raised concerns. Plastic and other waste materials discarded by locals have significantly contributed to the river’s pollution, threatening aquatic life and overall environmental health.
According to Ward No. 7 Chairperson Moti Rana, garbage from Aryaghat in the Patela area is likely flowing into the Beli Bazaar section of the river. He asserted that local residents have not been dumping waste directly into the river and mentioned that tractors have been mobilized to collect garbage.
Rana further stated that he would coordinate with the Beli Bazaar Market Management Committee to address the issue and take necessary steps to remove the waste. “I urge everyone to participate in the cleaning process and help clear the river,” he said.
Meanwhile, Dhangadhi Sub-Metropolitan City, which has been working on waste recycling initiatives, has strict policies against littering and imposes fines for illegal garbage disposal, including on roads and public spaces.
