Nepal Electricity Authority to disconnect lines of 600 customers in Baitadi over unpaid dues
Baitadi: The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) Baitadi Distribution Center is set to disconnect the electricity lines of approximately 600 customers who have failed to clear outstanding dues totaling Rs 9.1 million.
The center reports that Rs 8,899,362 remains unpaid by 579 customers whose electricity bill payments are overdue by more than 60 days. Chief of the NEA Baitadi Distribution Center, Janardan Poudel, stated that this includes Rs 1,719,235 owed by 84 government offices—59 located in the district headquarters and 25 in the Patan area. The remaining Rs 6,380,126 is owed by 495 other customers.
The disconnection process for non-paying customers has already commenced as part of the Authority's policy to cut electricity lines if bills remain unpaid for 60 days after meter readings. The same approach was implemented last fiscal year, resulting in the recovery of Rs 6,380,126 in overdue payments.
Chief Poudel emphasized that reconnection of electricity lines will only occur after the dues are cleared. This measure aims to ensure timely bill payments and maintain operational efficiency within the distribution center.
