Dhangadhi: The Shaileshwari Jant fair was celebrated with enthusiasm at the Shaileshwari Temple in Dhangadhi Sub-Metropolitan City-9, Gauripur (Salghadi), on Friday.

The Shaileshwari Ritual Center has been organizing this celebration annually since 2042 BS at the temple, which serves as a branch of the Shaileshwari Temple in Doti. This tradition began as many individuals who migrated from Doti to Kailali were unable to return to their hometown for the festival. To address this, the priest of the Shaileshwari Temple in Doti lit an Akhand Deep and granted the authority to conduct the Jant celebration in Dhangadhi, explained Birendra Singh, Joint Secretary of the Center.

The festivities began on Thursday with worship of Goddess Bhagwati, followed by a night of traditional Deuda dancing. On Friday, the celebrations continued with the procession of Goddess Bhagwati, along with rituals such as the burning of Dhami and performances of Deuro dances.

The Shaileshwari Jant fair holds significant cultural value for the people of Far West Nepal, with its unique winter-time celebrations across various districts in the region.
