Rising Drug Abuse Among Youth in Kanchanpur Causes Concern
Dhangadhi – The future of many young people in Kanchanpur is being jeopardized due to increasing drug abuse.
Families are mourning as a significant number of youths, once seen as the fertile power of the future, are now falling into the swamps of drug addiction. As individuals involved in drug use, dealing, and transportation are arrested and imprisoned, their families are becoming increasingly worried.
The police have intensified their monitoring efforts to discourage drug use, sale, and trafficking, which is considered a serious crime. This has led to a rapid increase in arrests. However, the issue has escalated as even teenagers have fallen into the traps of drug addiction, creating significant challenges for their families. Parents are struggling to protect their children from the influence of drugs, and many families are battling to rescue their loved ones from addiction. Kanchanpur has recently become a hotspot for drug activities.
The open border with India has facilitated a surge in drug trafficking, with Indian citizens often transporting drugs to the border area. Dealers and users frequently travel to the border to purchase drugs, leading to a high rate of addiction among the youth.
The rise in drug addiction has also led to an increase in criminal activities among the youth. According to the police, many individuals aged between 15 and 35 are involved in drug addiction. There has also been a notable increase in the number of young women falling into drug addiction and participating in the drug trade. It has been observed that women are involved in drug dealing under the assumption that security personnel are less likely to suspect them.
In the financial year 2080/81, Kanchanpur police arrested 284 drug smugglers and users. According to Kanchanpur district police spokesperson Umeshraj Joshi, they recovered 7 kg 677 g 594 mg of hashish and 315 g 15 mg of heroin from these individuals.
The community is grappling with the consequences of this growing drug problem, and efforts are being intensified to curb the menace and rehabilitate those affected.
