Violent Assault in Darchula Leaves Woman Hospitalized

Darchula: In a distressing incident, a woman in Darchula, identified as 30-year-old Basanti Thagunna from Naugad rural municipality-1 Kasad, fell victim to a brutal assault allegedly carried out by her brother-in-law.

The grievous attack transpired on the night of December 1st when Jairam Thagunna, the accused brother-in-law, reportedly entered Basanti's residence. Basanti, who also holds a position as an executive member of Naugad rural municipality, sustained severe head and facial injuries during the assault.

Following the incident, Basanti sought medical attention at the District Hospital, Darchula, on November 16th. However, due to the extent of her injuries, she has been referred to Dhangadhi District Hospital for further treatment, as informed by Dammardatta Bhatta, the Information Officer of District Hospital, Darchula.

The victim has lodged a formal complaint against Jairam at the District Police Office, Darchula, on November 16th. DSP Shiv Bahadur Singh confirmed that Jairam is currently evading authorities. Basanti Thagunna is presently undergoing treatment at Maya Metro Hospital in Dhangadhi as investigations into the incident continue.
