Compensation Delayed for Injured Individual in Kailali Despite Minister's Assurance
Dhangadhi: Virendra Jaisi, a resident of Kailali who sustained injuries from police firing, has expressed dissatisfaction as he awaits promised compensation from Home Minister Narayankaji Shrestha, despite assurances made four months ago.
Jaisi, who had initially received compensation of 191,000 from the Ministry of Home Affairs, embarked on a hunger strike at Maitighar Mandala in Kathmandu on June 1. His demand for additional compensation was rooted in the belief that the initial support failed to cover the full extent of his treatment costs. The fast was concluded on June 25, following Home Minister Shrestha's pledge to take over his medical expenses, cover treatment costs incurred thus far, and secure suitable employment for him.
Residing in Janki Rural Municipality-8 of Kailali, the 26-year-old Jaisi, who had previously suffered severe injuries while assisting the police in a confrontation with a wood smuggler seven years ago, found himself compelled to stage the hunger strike. Despite government assurances to cover his medical expenses at that time, Jaisi's health deteriorated due to delayed compensation, rendering him unable to meet his treatment expenses. Complications during the hunger strike led to his transfer to Veer Hospital and Police Hospital for further medical attention.
