Dhangadhi Estuary Embellished for Chhath Puja Celebrations
Dhangadhi: As the auspicious festival of Chhath approaches, preparations are in full swing at the estuary of Dhangadhi's Chhathi Ghat. Chairman Santosh Mandal Dhanuk of the organizing committee revealed that the groundwork has commenced in Mohana, anticipating the commencement of Chhath following Bhaitika.
Chhath Puja is an annual tradition celebrated in Mohna, situated in the Nepal-India border region. Mandal stated that various activities such as cleaning, stall setup, idol preparation, and entrance construction are underway in the area. While Chhath holds special significance in the Terai region, its observance in Dhangadhi is on the rise, with an increasing number of participants each year. The evening arghya, formally offered on the 3rd day of Mangsir, marks the initiation of the main ritual, which spans three days.
The festival kicks off with Bartalu on the first day of Chhath, involving bathing and consuming food. The second day witnesses the performance of the Kharna Method, known as the day of sin purification. On this day, devotees fast throughout the day, adorning the ground with Jhol made from Arawa rice flour and covered with cow dung in the evening.
