Achham Municipality Lockdown Persists for 10 Days Amid Budget Dispute
Achham: The Kamalbazar Municipality in Achham continues to remain locked for the past 10 days. On October 19th, four political parties jointly locked the doors of the municipal office, citing the municipal executive's failure to pass the budget.
The Nepal Communist Party, United Socialists, Nepal Labor Farmers Party, and Nepal Communist Party came together to enforce this lockdown. This prolonged closure of the municipality has disrupted essential public services, and citizens are growing increasingly frustrated as efforts to resolve the issue seem elusive.
Yagya Prasad Dhakal, the city chief, explained that the budget's passage had been impeded by the main opposition party, CPN-UML. He added that during his trip to Kathmandu for medical treatment, the deputy chief appointed 13 employees without public advertising, which sparked a dispute when these employees were not officially appointed. While budgets have been successfully passed in all other municipalities in Achham, the Kamalbazar Municipal Corporation's budget remains in limbo.
