UML Seeks Input from Far West Government on Shahid Dashrath Chand National Health Sciences University
Dhangadhi: The UML party has formally requested the Far West government to express their views regarding the establishment of the Shaheed Dashrath Chand National Health Sciences University in Geta, Kailali. During the Sudurpaschim Provincial Assembly meeting on Sunday, Dharmaraj Pathak, a member of the Provincial Assembly, raised the issue and sought the opinion of the Sudurpaschim Province government.
The allocation of a budget by the federal government to establish a 100-bed hospital has prompted the UML party to seek the perspective of the Far West government. They are concerned that proceeding with the university as an independent institution would contradict the federal government's own policies and programs.
Pathak highlighted the lack of a clear stance from the state government amid ongoing protests by the people of the region, who are advocating for the establishment of a health science university. He further emphasized that the CPN-UML party supports the ongoing movement demanding the creation of the Shaheed Dashrath Chand University of Health Sciences. Pathak stated, "CPN-UML stands in solidarity with the ongoing movement seeking the establishment of the Martyr Dashrath Chand National Health Sciences University in Geta. However, we are eager to know the opinion of the state government on this matter. We had previously requested the government's viewpoint in a prior meeting, but no response has been provided thus far. Therefore, I urge the government to share its perspective with the public."
The federal cabinet meeting held on February 12 had decided to establish the Shahid Dashrath Chand National University of Health Sciences in Geta. The government's policies and programs also affirm the operation of the university. However, the recent federal budget, announced on June 15, mentioned the development of Shahid Dashrath Chand as a National Institute of Health Sciences, along with the operation of a 100-bed hospital. This announcement triggered the movement in the Far West region.
As a result of the mass strike on Sunday demanding the functioning of a health university in Geta, Kailali, the daily lives of the people in the Far West have been significantly impacted.
