More than 179 fugitives from Far-West still absconding
Dhangadhi: The crime rate has been found increasing day by day in the Far-West. Cases of criminal activities including murder, extortion, fraud, wood smuggling, vehicular homicide, polygamy, sale of drugs, herbal trafficking, assault, kidnapping, and robbery have been found increasing. Kailali, Kanchanpur, and then Bajura have the highest crime rates.
Spokesperson Ved Prakash Joshi said that the Kailali police have prioritized the search for the fugitive accused involved in heinous crimes. Due to the open border, some of the accused may be hiding in India. We have been conducting searches by sending the full details of the crime including the name, address, and picture of the fugitive accused to every police unit.
Recently, two hundred and fifty-seven people have been involved in various crimes in Kailali, Kanchanpur, Doti, Darchula, Bajura, Baitadi, Bajhang, Achham, and Bajura, while many fugitives from these areas are still absconding. Out of them, 27 women are on the police's most wanted list. Up to the financial year 2078/79, there is a record of 179 absconders including 160 men and 19 women involved in crime, while 78 absconding accused including 70 men and 8 women have been added up to the list by the end of October of the current financial year.
It is claimed that the absconding defendant convicted for heinous crimes is the most wanted by the police. Stakeholders say that the police have not been successful in stopping criminal activities in the province. Incidents of rape and murder have been repeated many times. The police have not been able to arrest even those who have been found guilty by the court.
In the Far-West, 38 people have been involved in vehicular homicide but they are still absconding. Similarly, 29 people have been guilty of attempting to rape and rape but they are still absconding. Bhola Bahadur Rawal, spokesperson of Sudurpaschim Province Police Office, Dhangadhi, said that the district police office and related police units are working to search for the fugitive.
"We have prioritized the investigation of the criminals who have been convicted by the court and the accused who are being tried in the court, who were to be kept in police custody and investigated, but are instead on the fugitive list," he said. According to Sudurpaschim Province Police Office, the police are specifically looking for defendants who have been sentenced to imprisonment and fined by the court but are absconding without serving the prescribed sentence.
