Dhangadhi: Sudurpaschim province has been found to be at high risk of earthquake in terms of disaster risk compared to other provinces. This information was given in the impact assessment program based on the landscape earthquake of Far West province organized in Dhangadhi on Tuesday.

Under the project of Dhangadhi sub-metropolitan city, European Union, UNDP, UNICEF, UNOman, Nepal Red Cross Society under the organization of Ministry of Internal Affairs and Law of Sudurpaschim Province, earthquake and earthquake disasters and their possible effects were discussed in Sudurpaschim Province.

Since there has been no earthquake in the Far West for a long time, geologists have emphasized that precautions should be taken. Dr. Deepak Choulagai, Geoscientist, said that Sudurpaschim province is at high risk in terms of various disaster risk and earthquake risk.

He said that emergency, medium-term and long-term action plans should be made and implemented to reduce seismic risk. He said that if the private residences there are not strengthened by using engineering techniques and programming techniques in time, there will be great damage. According to Chaulagai, 2119 disaster incidents have occurred in Sudurpaschim Province in the last 10 years.

Ran Bahadur Rawal, Minister of Internal Affairs and Law of Sudurpaschim Province, said that since the province is prone to earthquakes, there is a need to carry forward disaster awareness activities.

He emphasized that even though the Himalayas including the Far West Terai, Chure and the Mahabharata regions are important, the geological structures there are risky and should be taken seriously.
