Pandit arrested for discriminating Dalit community in Kanchanpur

Dhangadhi: A pandit who discriminated against the Dalit community has been arrested in Kanchanpur. The pandit who discriminated against the Dalit community while worshiping in the Mahakali river was arrested on September 1st (Bhadra 16th). Sahdev Bhatt of Bhimdatta Municipality-10 discriminated against Dalit women on the basis of caste on the day of Rishi Panchami at Bhujela Ghat of Mahakali river.

On Sunday, the victim, Sanju Nepali of Bhimdatta Municipality-5, filed a complaint against the pandit at the district police office regarding caste discrimination and untouchability. District Police Office Kanchanpur said that the court will extend the deadline for Pandit Bhatt on Monday.

When the pregnant woman asked the pandit to perform a ritual for her gotra, he turned away saying that he would not perform the rites as she was from a lower caste and wouldn't touch her.
