Dadeldhura flood victims get home after 19 years

Dhangadhi: 19 years after the floods washed away their houses in Parashuram Municipalities 2 and 3 Topgaon of Madhesh, Dadeldhura, the victims have been able to live in their homes. 32 families who were completely displaced by the floods that occurred in the dry season of 2062 were able to live in their homes after the government of Nepal purchased land and built them in a new location.

32 people died in Topgaon and 35 families were completely displaced due to the flood. At present, houses have been built for the victims in Ratamati and Parigaon-5 of Parashuram Municipality-4. Engineer Smarika Bam of the Urban Development and Building Division Office, Dhangadhi, informed that a family was provided with land up to one plant and a two-storey house was built. According to him, a house was built for a family at the rate of four lakh rupees. Land was purchased for the construction of the house in the financial year 2073 74 at a cost of about one crore rupees.

An integrated settlement has been made for the flood victims in Parigaon and Ratamati. He said that arrangements for roads, schools, drinking water and toilets are being arranged within the integrated settlement. He said that even in Parigaon, houses were built by plotting land and managing roads and water supply. He said that in the first phase, the construction started after receiving funds for the construction of 32 houses in the last financial year. For the rest, the funds have come this year as well. Engineer Bam said, "this year too, the necessary physical infrastructure works including house construction will be done."

The responsibility of building the house was given to the affected locals. He said that those who can work quickly have completed the construction of their houses, while some houses are in the final stages of construction. After the flood washed away the house land, they were living in the forest and the surrounding land by making a tent. Ramesh Bahadur Bohra, Ward President of Ward No. 2, said that they have been making thatched roofs, tripal and zinc leaf roofs.
