The population of tigers increases in Shuklaphanta and reaches 36
Kanchanpur: The number of tigers has increased significantly in Shuklaphanta National Park in Kanchanpur. In the year 2009, there were 8 tigers, now that number has increased to 36. The information was disseminated in a program organized by Shuklaphanta National Park Office on the occasion of World Tiger Day on Friday.
Shuklaphanta National Park Office Assistant Conservation Officer Manoj Air informed that there has been a significant increase in the number of tigers in the survey conducted in the last 13 years. He said that he got information about the increase in the number of tigers from the pictures taken by the cameras installed by them. He said that now there are 16 females and 12 males in the park and the gender of the others is unknown.
The number of tigers in the park reached 8 in 2009, 17 in 2013, 16 in 2018 and 36 in 2022. Conservation officer Air said that the number of tigers in the park has increased due to the increase in the density of food species needed by tigers, reduction in poaching and the cooperation of local and community forest officials. With the increase in the number of tigers, it is said that there are various challenges to keeping the tigers safe.
Shuklaphanta National Park Office Assistant Conservation Officer Manoj Air said that while the forest penetration of the locals living near the park is increasing, the tiger's habitat is disappearing. It is said that 2 tigers have been found dead in the park in the last 2 years. In 2010, the number of tigers worldwide was 3,000. Now the number of tigers in the world has reached 6 thousand. Similarly, the number of tigers across Nepal has reached 355.
