Dhangadhi: It has been proposed to make Seti Provincial Hospital in Dhangadhi to hold 350-bed. It has been proposed to increase the capacity of Seti Provincial Hospital to 350 beds with a capacity of 125 beds including 50 beds from the Government of Nepal and 75 beds from the Hospital Development Committee.

The hospital has stated that the service flow will be much easier if the state government manages the budget by making a policy decision and recognizing the 350-bed hospital. The Ministry of Social Development has stated that the state government is positive to pass the proposal sent by the state government through the Ministry of Social Development.

As per the schedule approved by the Government of Nepal in 2041 BS, the capacity of Seti Provincial Hospital is only 50 beds. However, with the increase in patient pressure, the Hospital Development Committee added 75 beds in 2060 BS and now the number of approved beds in Seti is only 125. Chief Medical Superintendent of the hospital, Dr. Hemraj Pandey, said that the number of beds has been increased to 350 as the patients have to be treated at the hospital.

"We have arranged 350 beds in Seti Provincial Hospital as the patient pressure has increased, but there is a problem in service delivery due to lack of adequate staffing. The hospital has proposed 800 posts for 350 beds. If that proposal is passed, it will be very easy to get treatment in Seti." he said.

More than a thousand patients come to Seti Provincial Hospital daily for treatment. However, the hospital is said to be facing problems due to lack of manpower. Even though it is the main hospital of the state, only 189 people are working in the hospital out of 106 government posts and 83 from the Hospital Development Committee. A proposal has been sent to the Ministry of Social Development to add 694 clinical and administrative staff for the 350-bed hospital. However, the state government has not yet made that decision.

"The hospital has been proposed, the ministry has also discussed with the doctors of the hospital. A decision will be made soon." he said.

Minister for Social Development Govinda Raj Bohara said that the Ministry of Social Development is planning to make Seti Provincial Hospital physically and manpower rich. Minister Bohara said that his main priority is to construct a state-of-the-art building in the hospital, manage equipment and manpower and also work for land acquisition. "My goal is to make Seti Hospital more convenient. I am committed to the hospital building, equipment management, land acquisition and upgrading of the hospital." he said.

Seti, which has been identified as a hospital for the treatment of patients in all the districts of the far-western region, has been facing problems as people have to go elsewhere for treatment due to lack of manpower.
