A man accused of raping his wife in Achham has been jailed for three and a half years

Dhangadhi: A young man from Achham has been sentenced to three and a half years in prison for beating and raping his pregnant wife. The High Court of Dipayal has sentenced him three years and six months imprisonment for marital rape.

The woman had complained about her husband alleging that she was raped while she was sleeping. Neighbours testified that the victim had sought help after being raped. However, the young man had stated that he had consensual sex.

The victim's husband was acquitted by the Achham District Court on January 10. A bench of Chief Justice Teknarayan Kunwar and Justice Jagat Bahadur Thapa of Dipayal High Court on Monday overturned the district court's verdict and sentenced him to imprisonment.
