Mahendranagar: The provincial-level President’s Running Shield competition is set to take place in Dadeldhura for the first time in Sudurpaschim Province.

The 16th edition of the President’s Running Shield, organized by the Sudurpaschim Province Sports Council, will begin in Dadeldhura from Thursday, according to Member Secretary Lok Bahadur Khadka.

“Around 900 players from nine districts will participate in the six-sport competition,” said Khadka. “All preparations have been completed, and players are continuing to arrive in Dadeldhura.”

Khadka noted that in the past, the provincial-level Running Shield had only been organized in Kanchanpur and Kailali, and this marks the first time it is being held in Dadeldhura among the seven hilly districts.

The Provincial Sports Council has managed arrangements for participating players and officials, with support from the Dadeldhura Sports Committee. “It is said that 107 players from each district will participate, but attendance from the hilly districts may be slightly lower,” he added.

The competition will feature men’s and women’s volleyball, men’s and women’s kabaddi, wushu, karate, taekwondo, and athletics. Meanwhile, a team of 94 players from Kanchanpur has already departed for Dadeldhura, according to District Sports Committee Chairman Gyanendra Bahadur Singh.

He said a total of 106 individuals, including players and officials, will represent Kanchanpur in the provincial-level event.

The tournament, scheduled from Jestha 14 to 16, will be inaugurated by Meghraj Khadka, as informed by the organizing Provincial Council.
