Sale of Turkey meat for the first time in Dadeldhura
Harish Chand, Dadeldhura: While the wave of youth is increasing abroad, a youth from Dadeldhura has started a new business in the village. Suresh Bhandari of Moroda in Amargadhi Municipality has reared turkeys for the first time in the district.
Bhandari, who is thinking of doing creative work in the village, started raising turkeys by bringing 150 chickens from Dhangadhi a year and a half ago. He said that he has sold turkeys and chickens worth more than two lakh rupees a year. The price of a newborn turkey chick is Rs 300 to Rs 400 and a month old chick costs Rs 1,500. Males weigh 12 to 13 kg and females 7 to 8 kg. A kilo of turkey meat costs Rs 800. Turkeys that start laying chicks in four months are suitable for eating meat for 6 to 9 months. He said that he was attracted to Turkey rearing after getting information about it through media and the internet.
Suresh Bahadur Bhandari said that he had sold some of the 150 chickens and had some savings. He feeds the turkeys, which are fully mature in a year, like chickens, with grains and green grass. Turkey meat is considered to be the best for patients with high blood pressure, diabetes, and acidosis. Demand for turkey meat is increasing due to its low-fat content. Bhandari, who has been rearing 50 layers of chickens for egg production, plans to increase the number of turkeys and raise endangered local Sakini, Ghantikhuile and reverse breed chickens.
