CPN-Unified Socialists garners substantial number of supporters
Dhangadhi: Generally, when any party splits, the size of the new party formed after the split is smaller than the original party and the organizational condition is weak.
However, in the case of the CPN-Unified Socialists formed after the split of the CPN-UML, that belief has been proved wrong in the Far-Western states. After the split of the UML, the CPN (Unified Socialist Party) is bigger than the UML in the Far- Western Provincial Assembly. The CPN-UML, the largest party in the state, had 25 MPs at the time.
However, after the split, 13 lawmakers have chosen the CPN-Unified Socialist Party. Now UML has only 12 MPs left. In the Far-Western states, the new party formed by division is bigger than the original party. After the UML split, the CPN-Maoist Center remained the largest party in the Far-Western Provincial Assembly with 14 MPs, while the Madhav Kumar Nepal-led CPN-U became the second largest party with 13 MPs.
The number of Nepali Congress and CPN-UML MPs is 12/12. Jaspa has two MPs in the state assembly. Leaders have claimed that some MPs are still socialists.
