One dies and hundreds suffer due to floods in Kailali
Dhangadhi: Many locals are facing financial problems after floods in various rivers of Kailali entered their settlements.
A person died many people found their houses flooded, according to the District Administration Office, Kailali. Hundreds of houses have been flooded. The deceased has been identified as Fupiya Tharu, 95, of Lamkichuha Municipality-6. Spokesperson of the District Police Office, Kailali, Deputy Superintendent of Police Prateek Bista informed that Tharu was washed by the river on Thursday evening.
According to Bista, Tharu's body was found in a flood-prone area about 7 km away. Two others have been rescued. Rajaram Sapkota and Aarti Sapkota of Kuchaini in Gauriganga Municipality-3 were stranded between the river Sivaganga and Jhilkhola when they went to cut grass.
They were rescued at midnight, said Shivraj Joshi, information officer at the District Administration Office, Kailali. A team of about 50 people including Nepal Army, Nepal Police and Armed Police Force rescued him, said Information Officer Joshi.
The floods that came after the rains have washed away one house in the district and flooded more than 100 houses. According to the District Administration Office, Kailali, the Godawari River in Godawari Municipality-4 has flooded the bridge connecting Kailali-Kanchanpur, a one-room tin-roofed grocery store of Ganesh Dutta Pandey at the Durga Temple and a wooden tin-covered waiting room was washed away.
Similarly, traffic on the Mohana River connecting Dhangadhi Sub-Metropolitan-3 and Kanchanpur's Baisevichuwa have been flooded on both sides of the bridge under-construction. According to the District Administration Office, Kailali, the flood in Patharaiya River has entered the settlements.
Shivraj Joshi, information officer of the administration, said that the river entered the Patharaiya settlement in Janaki Rural Municipality Ward No. 4 and 7 of the district. "Water has flooded 80 houses in Janaki Rural Municipality Ward No. 4 and 58 houses in Ward No. 7. A team of armed police has been deployed for their rescue," he said. Similarly, the District Administration Office, Kailali has urged the residents near the banks of Karnali area to remain vigilant.
Residents at the river bank area have been urged to remain vigilant after the Karnali River breached the embankment due to continuous rains in the Chure area, said Joshi, Information Officer at the District Administration Office, Kailali.
"The embankment constructed in Tikapur Municipality-5 Shahipur is being cut and filled. We urge the people near the river areas to stay safe," he said. According to the locals, the embankment has burst and the danger of it flooding the village has increased as the water level has risen.
Similarly, Katani River has flooded in Chhatakpur Basanta village of Wala No. 7 of Kailari Municipality. The flood inundated more than 30 houses, said local Jia Chaudhary. Similarly, the flood of Katani River has inundated Barka Basanta, Bhuiyanphanta and Rampur villages under Ward No. 7, locals said.
