6 ways to prevent flooding in Dhangadhi
Dhangadhi: Wards No. 1 to 8 in the market area of Dhangadhi Sub-Metropolitan are prone to flooding every year. Until a few years ago, the settlement could not be inundated even when it rained day and night, but now it is inundated by a momentary rain. Most of the roads in the sub-metropolitan are flooded. Until a decade ago, there was a problem of flooding only in a limited area of Dhangadhi. But now the market area of the city is completely submerged.
Here are five ways to prevent flooding in Dhangadhi:
1. To remove encroachment of streams, canals, and streams in order to solve the problem of inundation in the Dhangadhi Sub-Metropolitan, encroachment of canals, canals, and streams needs to be removed. Hundreds of houses have been built by crossing Kailali Khola, Sakuti Nala, Bhangi Nala and Sivanagar Nala flowing through Dhangadhi. The houses and walls have been constructed to narrow the flow area of rivers and streams and water flowing through Dhangadhi have started entering the houses. Houses and roads have been constructed not only in the canals but also in the old canals and ditches where water flows through various tolls and settlements of the city. Therefore, the first condition is to clear the overflowing canals, canals, and ditches so that the rainwater is not blocked in the settlement.
2. Eliminate encroachment of public lakes There were more than 100 public lakes in the Dhangadhi sub-metropolis. Most of them are now extinct. Jhagda Lake of Ward No. 1, Tilke Lake of Ward No. 2, Netuwa of Ward No. 3, Baduwa and Didibahini Lake of Ward No. 6, Saduwa, Atta Gadhaiya, Lamba and Manaiya Gadhaiya of Ward No. 7 have been encroached. In the past, there was no problem of flooding in the town due to the accumulation of rainwater in the lakes in the settlement. But now those lakes have been filled and sold. Due to this, locals have been saying that Dhangadhi has been inundated for a while due to rainwater.
3. The red card distributed by the city development should be canceled. The main culprit behind the drowning in Dhangadhi is the Dhangadhi Town Development Committee. Dhangadhi City Development Committee has sold 931 bighas of public land in the city. From 2049 BS to 2072 BS, the city development has registered about 200 bighas of land in the name of individuals. The city dwellers have estimated that the city will not be inundated even if the red cards can be destroyed. 4. You have to be strict while passing the map as the city development has repeatedly given redistribution of 200 bighas of land along the river bank and lake area, physical structures including houses have been built in the rainwater harvesting and flowing areas. Dhangadhi Sub-metropolis has passed the plan to build these houses. There is an allegation of the city dwellers that the Matiyar sub-metropolis has also become inundated in this way. It is believed that the problem of drowning will be solved if the sub-metropolitan city does not pass the house plan and rejects the past map based on the red card distributed by the city development.
5. Systematic urbanization Dhangadhi Sub-Metropolitan and Urban Development Committee has not been able to come up with a plan to develop settlements in the city. Dhangadhi has also been inundated due to land traders not leaving open areas and plotting land without maintaining roads against the norms. Therefore, a land-use policy should be implemented in Dhangadhi and it is estimated that the problem of flooding in the city will be solved if there is systematic urbanization.
6. Planned Road and drain construction Roads constructed in the Dhangadhi sub-metropolis are narrow. Some roads do not even have drains. Roads constructed without the construction of drains and drains constructed without water flow have also caused rainwater to freeze in the settlements. Even though culverts have not been constructed on the roads constructed in various settlements in Dhangadhi, water is being blocked in the settlements. Therefore, the problem of flooding can be solved if the sub-metropolitan is very careful while constructing roads and drains.
There is a demand from the city dwellers that the sub-metropolis should come up with a concrete plan to identify the cause of the inundation of Dhangadhi and stop the inundation accordingly. To solve the problem of flooding in Dhangadhi, there has been a demand to cancel the redistribution of streams and lakes distributed by the city development and to demolish the physical infrastructure built by encroaching on public land. Mayor of Dhangadhi Sub-metropolitan Nrip Bahadur Odd has been saying that the red parts planted on the land of Kholanal will be scrapped and dozers will be installed in the encroached area.
