343 people arrested for drug abuse in Far-West in the past 11 months
Dhangadhi: Three hundred and forty-three drug users have been arrested in the Far Western Province in the last 11 months. According to the State Police Office, 343 drug users, including 319 men, 15 women and 9 Indian nationals, have been arrested in the first 11 months of the current fiscal year.
A total of 196 people were arrested in Kanchanpur and 127 in Kailali. Similarly, 5/5 people were arrested in Darchula and Baitadi, 4 in Bajura, 3 in Bajhang, 2 in Doti and 1 in Achham were arrested. No arrests have been made in Dadeldhura, according to the state police office. Spokesperson of the State Police Office and Deputy Superintendent of Police Bharat Bahadur Chaudhary said that the users are mostly in the age group of 16/17 years.
According to the state police, 221 cases are related to drugs. Police have been arresting drug users and prosecuting them. However, the police have not been able to arrest the main supplier. But Deputy Superintendent of Police Siddharaj Neupane, spokesperson of the District Police Office, Kanchanpur, said that the supplier and the user are the same. Police claim that the smuggling of brown sugar and tablets from the bordering Indian market is on the rise.
